Essay:

For this project, I decided to draw my school life. My method or choice of artwork was watercolor. In this piece, I drew the three sports that I am currently participating in during my high school career. When Mr. Shiroma first introduced this project and said it was a "Legacy Project", the first thing that I could thing of basing my art upon was sports. As a student-athlete of Nānākuli High and Intermediate School, I have always tried my best in everything that I have done from basketball drills to school assignments. Aside from all of that, when I was first enrolled to Nānākuli, a friend was kind enough to show me all the star athlete's pictures that hang in the gym, as well as those individuals who have shown great leadership, hard-work, and dedication on and off the court. My dream is to have my name and picture hanging right beside them in that gym. Furthermore, I am going to try my hardest to earn not only athletic scholarships but academic as well. Later, I want to become a nurse, maybe even a doctor. The legacy that I am trying to leave behind is that no matter where you come from, anything is possible. I chose this particular theme because many kids from Nānākuli don't go to college due to their background, skill, or even just their mentality. Many students from this district believe that they can't do it because of the way they were raised. Anything is possible if you set your mind to it and are determined to reach your goal.
